Present
in the marketplace since 1934, with the omonymous Distilleria Bertolino
S.p.A, located in Sicily, and first firm of the
Group. The founder, Antonina
Bertolino, acting president of the Group, has reconstructed, from scratch,
the family distillery, from humble beginnings, to what many consider today
as "the largest distillery in Europe". Distilleria Bertolino
S.p.A. is located in Western Sicily, approximately 50 km from the Regional
capital of Palermo, in the town of Partinico, ideally placed near the
heart of the Sicilian viticultural industry.
The Distillery's commercial activity centres around the processing
of wine and wine by-products (wine, grape marc, lees) for the creation of wine alcohol, wine
distillate, both fresh and aged, and denatured
alcohol (total annual production of approximately
15.000.000 L of alcohol of various types, and a distillation plant
capacity of 150.000 Litres/day). In
addition, it is produced calcium
tartrate, obtained from wine lees, which ultimately is the
base in the production of Tartaric acid, as well as
dried grape
seeds, useful in the oil industry, or as a "poor"
fuel, i.e. biomass, for the production of energy.
During the various phases of the production of
alcohol, Distilleria Bertolino S.p.A produces a product called "Liquid
Borland", which is an excellent fertilizer.
Its alcohol and wine distillates are sold all over the world: primarily
for human consumption, in addition to various industrial uses; it is precisely
this global trade which is the key factor of the success of the company.

All
the phases of production use cutting edge technology, as well as ancillary
plants for rigorous controls of smoke
production and waste
water treatment, which entails an anaerobic digestion phase,
followed by a secondary aerobic stage.
In addition, a portion of the energy needed to run the plant is
self-produced through the generation of biogas.
Being a cutting edge facility, in terms of the technology it uses
and the products it manufactures, the Distillery can rectify alcohol for a
third party, taking an alcohol of medium quality (raw alcohol) and
transforming it into an alcohol of high quality (neutral alcohol), thanks
to the size of its plant, and taking advantage of the favorable logistic
position of one of its subsidiaries, the IMA
srl, a coastal wharehouse near the harbour of Trapani,
about 50 km from Partinico
